We agreed the work. The guys were available quickly. After starting, they needed to borrow my wheelbarrow, SDS drill and crow bar. Midway, they suggested the job should change as all the damaged patio tiles under the gutter outlet were not damaged by water run off, but the cement beneath them being too hard. The grout they put in washed away. They came and fixed it.

I have grown up on a construction site and have always had a good hand in lead ever since I was 4 years old. I had worked with my father doing plumbing and by the time I was 13 years old I was a part time partner in his company, I further went to college and qualified in level 2 NVQ Plumbing and had carried a full-term apprenticeship, creating a portfolio. Once finishing my qualifications I became a full time partner in my father’s general building company which entailed doing, extensions, refurbs, plumbing and heating, kitchen & bathroom refurbishments, new builds, roofing and lead work. We ran the company together for a further 8 years on top of his 45 years of quality construction. Musa was polite and pleasant to deal with, but his team were extremely careless and messy, leaving everything- sofas, TV, bedding etc uncovered and the flat thick with dust after day 1. Flooring was laid with mismatched shades, as the supplier delivered some packs in a different colour, which the contractors should have noticed. I didn’t spot it at first due to the mess, but once cleaned the difference was obvious. Although we agreed on a price adjustment, I’ve been left with a patchy floor that’s not ideal
